For those of us gun carriers wanting a deeper concealment than your average outside the waistband holster offers, many choices abound. There are literally tons of different holsters out there, all claiming to be the best. While I don't disagree that there are a lot of excellent holsters out there, there is one IWB holster that I use to carry my full size semi-auto pistol: the Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 2.0.
This holster was comfortable for me right out of the package, and didn't require any break in time. My guess as to why this is, is because there isn't a shred of leather on this thing. It is constructed of neoprene and some sort of vinyl – fake leather looking substance. And, while that may sound like a negative, it isn't. After all, they also do offer a leather backing, if you so choose.
That's a no go for me.
I'd rather my holster have a neoprene composite backing that is soft and flexible (not to mention waterproof!) from the second it's taken it out of the package. What makes this comfy holster even better, is the simple fact that the included hardware seems strong.
The holster is fully adjustable for depth and angle, meaning that you could drop the gun further into your trousers for better concealment. Or, you could tilt the grip toward the front, back or leave it perfectly centered. In other words, Alien Gear had you in mind when they made this thing, because you can adjust it any way you want.
If you're anything like any of my gun-loving friends, you may have a serious case of gun commitment syndrome. You know, that disease that forces you to buy as many guns as money can afford? Well, this holster has you covered there, as well. Whenever you buy a new gun, you can simply trade out your old shell for a new one that fits your new gun.
Voila. Instant gun change.
Or, if you're like me and unable to sell any of your firearms, you could just buy a new shell for right around $12. This means that by removing four little screws, I can swap from my 1911 to my Springfield in under two minutes.
The warranty is also pretty sweet. At first, you have 30 days to decide whether or not this is the most comfortable holster you've ever had placed in between the inside of your pant leg and your tighty-whities.
After that, as I pointed out earlier, they offer free shell swaps for life. And, if anything on your holster ever breaks, they replace it. As far as warranties go, that is pretty comprehensive.
Finally, this is the Cloak Tuck 2.0. What this means, is that if you're all about business and dressing to impress, you can still tuck your shirt in without revealing your concealed weapon.
So, what's the damage? A holster like this likely costs a pretty coin, right? Well, not so fast. These made in the USA holsters are totally affordable and start at about $35 smackers. Which, at my last count, was less than half of what a conventional kydex IWB holster was going for.
Like something from out of this world, Alien Gear Holsters stay on the cutting edge of holster technology. I truly believe that a goal of theirs is to please all of their customers, as I know they did me. Please note that I was NOT PAID for this review by Alien Gear. Nor was I given a Cloak Tuck holster to review.
