I bought a Tc center compass by Smith & Wesson for $229.00 with out the scope but there are packages with a Vortex scope for under $400.00 my rifle is a 30-06!!! They do have 6.5 creedmore ,308,270 models for under $500.00 in packages great rifle!!!
How about the Ruger PC carbine in 9mm or.40 S&W? It’s a takedown, it can navigate in limited spaces and the user can shoot with Glock or Ruger high capacity magazines.
What about the Ruger 10/22, Especially the Take down 10/22 that comes with a carry case and can quickly assemble after the initial set up. Is the ultimate Survival Rifle as My opinion of what the ultimate Survival Rifle would be. SURVIVAL being the Key Factor.
One can easily acquire large capacity magazines. Also bricks (500 rounds) takes up very little space and USED to be quite reasonably priced. 550 loose packed Federal .22 LR was around $8.00) and “500 Round Bricks 10 boxes of 50 rounds were readily available for give or take depending on the brand and type of bullet around $10.00.

How about caliber – and ammo availability? And the classic M1 Girrand with higher ammo capacity (avail through Civilian Marksmanship Project)?
