Remington 870 Shotgun

It’s not hard to justify a shotgun in a survival setting. My choice would be a police model 18 inch barrel, cylinder bore choke, three inch chamber with an extended magazine … in 12 gauge. This gun has been around for decades and has been proven in many harsh conditions. In just this one platform you have a short range rifle (100 + yards) with a rifled slug, a great self-defense and hunting round with 00 or #4 buckshot and a small game load with anything from #8 to #4 birdshot. Door breaching ability is also among the shotgun's assets. I have personally taken small to medium size plains game with 12 gauge using buckshot in Africa. I prefer a fixed stock and either a standard front sight bead or simple rifle style express sights. A copy of this excellent firearm lives in my vehicle at all times.

I have a henry in 357Mag and and a revolver in the same. But i also have Gock19 and a ruger in 9mm and then i would use my Savage Axis in 6.5CM and or 30/06. But then again you cant forget the AR platform with any number of calibers? Which i have also lol But if it came down to it i would p ick the few 9mm handguns i have and the henry and revolver for carrying around. Although i would have to have a few ARs with ammo stashed some place for back up arms and ammo. Can never hurt to have several chases stored around as back ups…..

a savage sp 24 over/under .22 mag. 20 ga. mag would be one of my choices for a single gun.

I have the Henry H0001 Lever action Carbine. It will take 22 LR, 22 Long, and 22 short. It doesn’t break down but it is only about 3 feet long, so still isn’t a problem to carry.

Not exactly the guns I would have selected, but they still have plenty of utility. Essentially, it’s a good .22, a powerful hunting rifle, a MSR for defense, a good reliable shotgun like an 870 or Mossberg 500, and a handgun in 9mm or larger for those last ditch moments.

The great thing about a shot gun for survival is you have a way better chance of taking enough game to survive. Ammo is heavier, but you’ll be less likely to miss that squirrel, or quail, or rabbit, etc. ,and taking big game will be easy.

I like the Henry .22 survival rifle. All the parts ft in the stock. It is light and already is in my bugout box.
