SHOT Show 2016 is well underway, here in Las Vegas, and my head is literally spinning. I mean, everywhere I look, I’m surrounded by the latest and greatest from some of the top gun manufacturers on the face of the planet, like the Tommy in the picture just above.
In addition to the the aforementioned greats, are several up and coming manufacturers who are guaranteed to be the future of the firearms industry.
It just so happens, that I ran into one of these up-and-commers from my hometown, Rockaway New Jersey.
I know what you’re thinking right now: Come on, a new gun maker from New Jersey? Are there even any gun enthusiasts left in that liberal-leaning state? Apparently there are. And, to make it even more interesting, I went to high school with one of the owner’s kids and one of their machinists.
Anyway, the company offers a product that caught my eye. And, if you’re a lefty, this is sure to grab your attention as well.
Enter the DR15L. Essentially, this is JEM ARMS‘ version of a left-handed AR-15 that is available in a few different calibers: .223, .300 BLK and 6.8 SPC. They make everything in house, except for a few components, like the barrel, BCG, buffer tube and grip. Other than that, they take pride in their own concepts and designs.
The upper and lower receivers are cut out of 7075 aluminum, and are available in left, right and ambidextrous configurations.
Their custom muzzle brake looks functional and definitely served as a conversation piece. The rifles they had on display were either cerakoted or anodized, and there are a plethora of options that you can choose from.
In fact, they even have a rifle they call the Patriot in stock. It looked great. I have hopes of traveling to my old home town, if I can stand being naked (without my concealed carry piece) long enough to ride through New Jersey. They told me that I could stroll on down any time I like.
I just may. And who knows, maybe there is hope for New Jersey, after all.
