Japan’s Gun Restrictions Don’t Work in America

I just wanted to take a second to let you know that some of Japan's gun enthusiasts don't think Americans should have the right to freely own guns. In fact, it makes some of them sick. You know, because we, as free Americans, really care about what people in other countries seem to think about us…

The article that I'm referring to touts that violent crime in Japan is far lower than it is here in the US. To that, I say: Of course there is! There are a few reasons why that is so. First, we are more than twice as big as they are, population wise. In fact, America has more than 325 million people, with a steady influx of immigrants. And, there's no sign of the immigration slowing down now that the borders have been opened to everyone and their twice removed 5th cousins.

By comparison, Japan has less than 127 million people. In essence, we have almost 200 million more people than Japan does. That, my friends, is a very big difference.

But, that's not even the point. A bigger aspect of why Japan has a lower crime rate is simply because the criminal justice system is more harsh. In Japanese prisons, people aren't treated like grown children as they are here in America. I was a state corrections officer for just about one year (one of the worst years of my life, by the way), and the criminals were treated better than I was half the time.

They had cable TV, a bed to sleep on, three hot meals a day, a big screen TV in the—get this—game room and other amenities that criminals just should not have. In Japan, when you break the law you get treated like a criminal, and Japanese citizens actually don't want to go to jail. Here in America, people look for reasons to go to jail just because they are cold at night.

In other words, going to jail in Japan sucks, and people are actually afraid to commit crimes…

More important than the amount of people we have, or the unbalanced criminal justice system, is how our country was started and the laws that were the result of tyranny. These very laws were written into our Constitution to keep us from ever having to bear that burden again. To be sure, Japan looks more like a controlled police state than a free country.

I had the privilege of living in Japan for over a year while I served in the Marines. I can honestly say that while it was one of the best years of my early adult life, it was strange to see so many surveillance cameras around. And, a Japanese article from 2013 states that there are somewhere between 3-4 million cameras strategically placed to watch its citizens, with more being added each year.

What's my point? Japan is, for the most part, disarmed. Yes, their crime rate is lower, but they aren't free. And, they have someone watching their every move. No thank you.

In fact, in a sort of funny side note, one of my Marines was caught out in town doing something stupid. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but I remember it was really bad, and he got into a lot of trouble for doing it. But, the interesting thing, is that he was never caught by the police. They videotaped him committing the act, took down his license plate and sent him some photos indicating they caught his stupidity along with some hefty tickets.

However, even with all of the cameras, and the jails being far stricter, crime does still happen. When I was in Japan, I was warned to not go out into town by myself because of the “scooter gangs.” Yeah, you read that right.

You see, there were these teens who rode around on these glorified bicycles with chains and bats in their hands. I'm not quite sure of their intent because I'd never been a victim, but I had seen them riding around, and my guess is that they weren't looking to play baseball. But, I had heard stories about others getting the snot kicked out of them by these lovely people.

In other words, violent crimes still happen, even in Japan. Personally, I'd rather be able to defend myself against these “scooter gangs” than become a victim.

So, to the people in other countries who don't believe Americans should have the right to bear arms, I say this to you: Come and take them.

Sound off Gun Carriers, let us know what you think about Japan's laws and why they'd never work here, in America. Then, when you're done with that, make sure you like the Gun Carrier Facebook page to make sure you stay up to date on everything we've got going on.

It’s not what they have, it’s what they don’t have-Blacks & Hispanics. Why else is there little or no looting after any earthquake or tsunami?

Though I respect that you are entitled to your opinion, responses like this are the reason the left has been able to aquire such influence. Unfortunately, Whites commit atrocious crimes as well. Specifically, Whites represent the largest population of serial killers and both child and adult sexual offenders; violent rapists included. (This according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.)

Use your mind before making rash comments as it only serves to benefit liberals who are able to sway minority votes not just on the premise of social programs, but also in that conservatives are increasingly perceived as the racist enemy. Crime rates in this country have nothing to do with race, and everything to do with the political manipulation of the socioeconomic landscape.

I’m Hispanic. My family arrived in the New World with the Spanish Conquistadors; we never married with Mexicans. I’m conservative as are my family members. None of my many family members have ever been in jail nor in prison. My grandfather was a decorated WWII Veteran and I have many family members who serve in the military; one of whom has had over 30 surgeries to his face alone after being hit by an IED. We don’t, drink we don’t smoke, we don’t even cuss. We consist of ranchers and alfalfa farmers, and a couple of doctors, myself included (med. student). We all strongly support our Second Amendment rights and we live in a community with the same conservative views. We are White by human classification standards, but Hispanic in tradition.

Thus, in knowing what I do about Hispanics (I think I’m well qualified to argue this position), the ones who are committing the crimes are the ones who are allowed to cross the border ILLEGALLY, and those who are too lazy to get a job. The greatest of these criminals being our RHINO and liberal politicians. I don’t support open borders, but I’m “wise” enough to realize that wealthy politicians worry only about votes. Instead of blaming a specific group, blame your constituents. Blame liberal media. Blame yourself. If you continue to propogate the denigration of any one group, you proliferate liberal ideologies and further allow for the deterioration of OUR nation. Why argue for regression?

        It’s RINO, not RHINO.

Wow. I’m amazed by your polemic and humbled by your intellect.

I was not trying to affirm or contend your position, just correcting your acronym.

Yeah because why? This article makes its point through sheer numbers not per capita numbers, by that reasoning Whites are the biggest threat to society because there are more whites in prison than blacks or latinos. So kick out the white people? I’m confused by your logic.
