What do you do if someone is pointing a gun at you? Do you freeze? Do you run? Do you go all Bruce Lee on their ass and get yourself shot? There are many techniques when it comes to learning how to disarm a gun from a wayward attacker. At GunCarrier, we obviously hope and pray that you will never have to use any of those techniques, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't train in them. The “Don't be a Victim” series is designed to teach you self-defense techniques so you can defend yourself in any situation, with anything and everything. Legally we make NO claims that any of these techniques will be 100% effective, as they require substantial training to perfect and every situation is different. This course series is purely for informational purposes only, so don't go off an re-enact that next Die Hard movie after watching this stuff, ok?

Throughout the series, we'll present you with original training techniques from coach Jeremy Pollack from Inner Warrior Coaching, who will cover knife defense, how to disarm a gun from a gunman, and how to use random items such as a belt or stick to defend yourself.  Take hold of Coach Jeremy's  20+ years as a Martial Arts instructor, and Don't be a Victim! You can always find the ongoing series playlist here.

Quite a bit of what was recommended in this gun disarm video is incredibly dangerous! I’m surprised at what was recommended. For example, “putting your hands up” and then going to reach for the weapon will very likely get you killed. The fact is any movement of your hands towards the gun is immediately recognized by the gunman, looking directly at you, and he will likely, with a flinch reaction pull the trigger. Now.. you had recommended tilting your head; let’s play this scenario through using your strategy. I am the gunman, and I have my gun within a foot from your face. You have “put your hands up.” My finger is firmly on the trigger, gun pointed at your head, and I am very anxious – my finger is not very still. Your hands that you have put up have flinched towards the gun – before you can even maneuver your hands to grab my gun – I have simply flinched back my finger 1cm, firing a shot at your body. I would like to add that if your movement is not perfectly executed then it is highly probably you will absorb a bullet wound. Not a very large margin for error! This particular Krav Maga instructor (Not all Krav Maga instructors teach this way) shows multiple gun disarm situations and explains thoroughly from the gunman’s perspective and the unarmed person’s perspective. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07jnqD8wvyE

I disagree. I have trained for this and many other weapon disarm techniques. It takes .15 seconds or less for me to deflect the weapon away from my body. It takes longer, approx .2 secconds. For anyone’s brain to realize I have even moved. It then takes another split second for them to act at which time the attacker is already disarmed. If the disarm is executed properly, the attacker has no chance whatsoever. I guess you just don’t realize how skilled people like us are at real life self defence and hand to hand combat. Keep practicing.
