From The Manufacturer/Wikipedia/People Smarter Than Us:
In 1980, we purchased the Beretta factory in Sao Paulo, Brazil “lock, stock and barrel” and immediately sought to improve on the Beretta design, resulting in the popular and acclaimed Taurus 92. Always looking to raise the bar, we've taken this year's models a step further than they've ever been.

1. Why is the picture at the top a CZ75 compact rather than the pistol the article is about?
2. The PT92 is the only thing Taurus makes that isn’t a dumpster fire. This is because they have never gotten around to having a separate production line for these. They’re all produced on the same line as the guns for the Brazilian military, so they have to do a little QC.
I will say that if you are one of the three guys who like the Beretta 92 design, the PT92 has a superior frame-mounted safety, though I wish it didn’t have the decocker function. Decockers and DA/SA are an abomination in the eyes of the Lord and John Moses Browning. On the other hand, you know, I’ve never heard of a PT92’s slide fracturing in use and hitting the shooter in the face. Nor have I ever heard of a PT92 locking block cracking or chipping, unlike the ones Beretta makes. Though these may be more indictments of Beretta’s QC than endorsements of Taurus products. There’s a reason the M9 was only in service thirty years and never fully supplanted the M1911A1 for the guys at the sharp end.
