A group of people battled for their lives, as well as for the lives of the entire galaxy. Some of these brave souls had weapons called light sabers, while others stuck with guns, called blasters. Sadly, nobody was able to hit the broad side of a star destroyer with these blasters, though it did make for some good entertainment…
Okay, it's time to let my inner geek shine through with a little something about everyone's favorite movie franchise. Chances are good that, even if you aren't a fan, or just happen to live under a rock on a little planet called Tatooine, you've heard that Star Wars is back and is sure to be a badass movie with some of the best action scenes and special effects ever witnessed.
I do have to admit, however, that as cool as Han Solo is with his blaster, he really hasn't the slightest clue about how to shoot the damn thing. And, while I am a HUGE Star Wars fan (to the point where my ring tone is a light saber powering up), I can't help but cringe each time I watch certain scenes.
Now, I don't cringe because it's bad acting, or because the scene isn't good. But, based on what I know about firearms and how to shoot them, I can't help but wonder how any of them lived to tell the tale.
For example, this next scene is straight out of the princess rescue mission. There is a lot going on with multiple bad guys shooting at them and forcing them to run away and hide while shooting back. But, as with all things, there is a lesson to be learned here: If you don't aim at your attacker, chances are good that you'll miss and put innocent lives in danger and allow the bad guys to keep shooting.
In the first part of this scene, they actually were aiming and hitting the bad guys. However, after it gets a bit hairy, they stopped aiming and shots were being let loose in every direction. If they had a clue, they could have ended it all a lot sooner. But, then the movie would have sucked causing Star Wars fans across the galaxy to be…. Star Trek fans. YUK!
Anyway, I digress…
While you can't aim in all defensive gun situations, it's never a good idea to just let your ammo fly like they did, because that's how innocents get hurt. Enjoy the video:
So, let this be a lesson for you…
Don't be like Han Solo or Luke Skywalker when you find yourself in a defensive situation. In other words, if you've got storm troopers shooting at ya, try to aim your shots at them instead of relying on dumb luck. That way, you won't find yourself sliding down the garbage chute to get away.
