I’m super stoked about what I received in the mail today. Polymer 80 sent me their Spectre 80% pistol frame and jig. I’ve begun sourcing parts, though that is proving to be harder than originally thought (because I’m so cheap). I’ve spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out which parts distributor to use, and which caliber I wanted to lob rounds down range with.

Either way, I’ll have a totally undocumented pistol when I’m done and nobody will know I’ve got it. Well, sort of. I guess in theory, everyone and their uncle will know that I’ve got the thing because I’m writing about it and plan to document it from start to finish, including a hi-def video of me showing you how to mill it out. But that’s okay, because I consider what I do on a day to day basis to be for the greater good.

In other words, if I can teach you what to do (or what not to do, like I did here) that’s all that matters.

All that’s left to discuss is how I want it configured. Do I want it in the widely available 9mm with a Glock 17 or 34? The just-barely harder-hitting .40 S&W with a Glock 22, 24 or 35? Or, do I go for the venerable .357 Sig with a Glock 24, 31 or 35?

The box it comes in.

I’m pretty sure that I already know which way I want to go. I have a couple of 9mm pistols and a box or two of ammo. .40 S&W is fine, but not really my go-to cartridge…so that’s out. This leaves me with .357 Sig. I’ve long thought that my next handgun would be chambered in this venerable self-defense cartridge.

Only, I never bought one…

Maybe now is the time. Of course, at this point, I’m gonna have to go with whatever I can get on the cheap. After all, money doesn’t grow on trees. So, this will likely leave me with a 17 or 34 just because they are more widely available and not as expensive.

I’ll be starting the process of finishing this polymer framed pistol after I get back from the NRA Annual Meeting. And, I doubt it’ll take all that long so stay tuned, and make sure you subscribe to the Gun Carrier YouTube channel to make sure you don’t miss out on it.

Also, let me know if you bought one of these or not in the comments below.
