The Kel-Tec KSG is one of the foremost bullpup shotguns to come out of the gun industry. Not only does it have a unique design, this tactical shotgun has an array of neat features as well.
Kel-Tec KSG Tactical Shotgun
The first time I saw the Kel-Tec KSG I didn't really take it for a pump action shotgun, and I bet I'm not the only one who had the same first impression. This firearm is quite a surprise for shotgun folks out there. The striking appearance matches its efficiency. It's not just an intriguing gun design without function with it. This Kel-Tec is also suitable for close-quarters combat because of its compact size, and great for home defense because it's fairly easy to maneuver. I'm a big fan of long barrel shotguns, but this gun from Kel-Tec has my attention.
The Kel-Tec KSG pump action shotgun has a barrel length of 18.5 inches. It shoots 12-gauge ammunition in 2.75 and 3-inch chambers with dual tube magazines holding a total of 12 rounds. The stock finish is matte black synthetic while the barrel and receiver are black steel. Overall, this gun weighs 6.9 lbs.
Ease of Use and Performance
If you're accustomed to shooting with traditional long barrel shotguns, you might wonder how it feels doing it with a Kel-Tec KSG. It's going to feel like shooting with a short-barreled carbine rifle, which I believe is not difficult to deal with. The recoil is comparable to shotguns with essentially the same weight. Despite its odd-looking feature, this Kel-Tec shotgun shoots comfortably as with others having the conventional frame.
For a gun that shoots 12-gauge ammunition, it's amazing how Kel-Tec developed a firearm that holds a capacity of 12 rounds. Its small size features an ability to manually switch between two magazine tubes holding 6 rounds each. As previously mentioned, this gun is great for close-quarters combat with its compact design and maneuverability. Apart from all these neat features, I don't like having to roll the gun upside down to look at the chamber.
At $650 – $990 this sure is one heck of a shotgun. Traditional shotgun users may find it odd to see such a strange design, but take a few rounds and you'll see what the fuss is all about. You'll certainly want this baby at home to keep everyone safe.
Here's a shooting video of the Kel-Tec KSG at 200 yards:
I had the opportunity to use one of these during my active service in the military. Holding it is one thing, but shooting this shotgun is another story. Imagine 12 rounds of continuous 12-gauge ammo pump action. The recoil lets you feel the kick on your shoulders, but man, you can't get enough of this Kel-Tec KSG!
