I absolutely love to hear about defensive gun uses (DGU), they make me giddy inside like a little kid on Christmas morning. No, it isn't because I like when people get shot—but because those on the left don't believe they ever happen. As usual, there is a lesson to be learned from the outcome of this story.

But first, let's take a look at the video, which originally aired on 6ABC out of Philly.

Tell me, what would you have done differently if you were “old man Sal?” Personally, if my wife and I were getting beaten on, I never would have let it get that far. Furthermore, the fact that the two punks stopped beating up on Sal and focused their attention to his wife means one thing to me:

They thought the old man was done defending himself after they beat him and then tossed him to the ground. Though the article doesn't say this for sure, these punks thought that they had finished him to the point that he could no longer fight back when they made the decision to take on his wife.

Thankfully for Sal, he had a .45 and was able to land a couple of shots, proving that he wasn't out of the fight just yet.

There's more, however…

Another thing that I would not have done, is mention the fact that I've got a firearm in the middle of an ass-whooping. If those two punks had any amount of common sense, they would've beaten him and taken the gun. Then Sal and his old girl would really have been up that proverbial (not to mention paddle-less) creek.

Finally, and I'm sure this will piss some of you off, the caliber wars are officially dead. Each one of these men took a shot from a .45 and lived to tell the tale. In fact, they walked a few blocks before stopping. Not exactly a one shot, one kill sort of thing. If there's anything we've learned so far, the best gun is the one you've got.

It's not all bad news, though. Sal and his wife were able to successfully stop their attackers. And, he was smart enough to let his attorney do the talking for him. Lastly, it does seem as if this is a valid self-defense case.
