A small-time Detroit jihadist has confirmed what we’ve all known to be true for a long time.

He was planning an attack on a church because, “It’s easy, and a lot of people go there, plus people are not allowed to carry guns in church.” In other words, he wanted a soft target where the people couldn’t defend themselves against a terrorist attack. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, gun free zones do nothing to prevent violent crimes. In fact, sometimes, these zones promote attacks because the bad guys know that nobody is armed.

That is why ISIS just shot up France. And, why they also just shot up the least gun-friendly state in the union, in San Bernardino. Could they be coming to a gun-free zone near you?

I digress…

The funny thing, however, is that churches are far from gun-free. Sure, there are some denominations who have demonized firearms, along with some states who make it a crime to carry in church. However, you’ll find that, most times, the people in church are armed to the teeth for just such an instance.

People are waking up to the fact that some people just want to hurt others. The obvious reaction to that, is to protect yourself and loved ones from any type of terror attack regardless of where it occurs.

Personally, I go to church on a weekly basis. It’s a small church with less than 150 people in attendance each week. Off the top of my head, I can think of 10 people who carry a concealed handgun during church each and every week.

Those are just the people I can think of off the top of my head. I’m sure I’d remember more if I thought about it longer.

Taking it a bit further, a few of us have spoken and developed a contingency plan on how we’d react should a group of AK-47 toting love bugs ever decide to come shoot up our church. We’re all strategically placed for optimal defense, with defined roles and backup roles.

I hope we never need to defend ourselves like that, but know we are capable if the need arises.

Furthermore, I’ve spoken to guys in other churches who have an undercover security force that gets together to train at regular intervals. They want to get as close to an active shooter situation as possible in their training. That way, if the time ever comes, they’re prepared to defend themselves.

Churches across this great nation are arming themselves. Some are hiring security personnel to defend them, while others are spending money on security consultants who have dedicated their lives to helping churches be safe. And then, there are churches like mine, with armed attendees.

Sadly, these resources are needed to keep congregants safe in a time of turmoil and uncertainty, where the enemy hates anything that isn’t considered the god of Islam.
