Frequently Asked Questions: Rifle Qualification
What is this qualification?
A standardized, timed course that measures safe gun handling, accuracy, and consistency across set stages and distances.
What score do I need to pass the qualification?
Your program sets the cutoff (often 70–80%). Scores are based on points per hit and penalties for misses or safety errors.
How is the rifle qualification course structured?
Multiple timed stages that move from longer to shorter distances (e.g., 25→7 yards). Each stage specifies rounds, position, and time.
What targets and scoring are used?
Official silhouettes or rings with point values. Hits in higher-value zones earn more points; misses score zero.
Can I retake the qualification test if I fail?
Yes. Most programs allow immediate or scheduled retests after coaching on identified weaknesses.
How should I prepare for rifle qualification?
Zero your rifle, confirm ammo reliability, practice reloads and positions, and run dry-fire reps with a timer. (Solid Budget Rifles 2025)
Are safety violations an automatic fail?
Often yes. Muzzle/trigger discipline breaches or range-rule violations may disqualify you regardless of score.
