Gun Myths in Movies You Grew up With
Every one of us probably grew up watching movies and believing in many of the “gun myths” we saw with our own two eyes. It's undeniable how movies influence what we have come to believe about gun facts in the best part of our childhood days.
I can still remember imitating my favorite action heroes and makeshift weapons while playing with other kids. Eventually, years passed and I gained more serious knowledge about firearms.
Movie entertainment is a lucrative business these days, and I still enjoy the fallacious yet amusing gunfights they show us all on the big screen. So for those who have been unknowingly misled, let me share some gun myths often portrayed in films.
1. A Gun with a Silencer = Quiet as a Mouse

A silencer will lessen the noise your gun makes but not exactly how it's portrayed in the movies.
The truth is gunfire with a silencer still amplifies the sound a little and has been reduced many times but not to the point where you hear almost nothing. They even have shotguns with silencers, which makes it more ridiculous.
2. Machine Gun Myth

You've probably seen how big strong guys in the movies handle a machine gun in full auto mode.
Sometimes, they hold it with one hand and still hit a moving target. It's cool to watch but totally not the way a machine gun works.
3. Gun Cocking

It looks pretty cool when a gun is cocked in the movies. The truth is, most modern guns don't require cocking to fire as the trigger cocks the hammer for you.
Pumping a shotgun looks badass too but only ejects perfectly good bullets when you don't pull the trigger.

4. Unlimited Ammo Gun Myth
This is one of the things we often see on the big screen. A lot of times we see actors who rarely reload in a gunfight.
In the Rambo sequels, in particular, we see “Sly” carry the same AK-47 in different scenes reloading after a while. Though in reality, setting an AK in full automatic will only last a few seconds with a 30-round magazine capacity.
5. Bullet Power

There are countless movie scenes showing a single bullet make almost any pressurized metal explode. How many car chases do you see cars explode with a single handgun bullet?
Car companies hate lawsuits, so you can bet it won't be easy to blow up a vehicle.
6. Cutting the Hangman's Rope
If you're fond of wild west movies, I'm pretty sure you've seen some of the good guys shooting a hangman's rope to save somebody from being executed. Moreover, the shooter does the stunt while riding a horse at full speed.
One-shot with a handgun won't usually cut a hangman's rope so doing it on a very unstable platform makes it much more unrealistic. For what it's worth, this is really one of the most badass gun myths we like to believe.
7. Bullets Spark
Almost all movies show a bullet spark when it hits metal or concrete. In reality, there's only a spark if the bullet hits a specific metal, and it's usually not enough to ignite anything.
Well, maybe movie makers use the spark to illustrate where bullets have been going.

I'm sure a lot of gun enthusiasts agree with me on this list of debunked gun myths. But let's face it, you can only imagine how dry shooting scenes will be without these gun myths.
The good guys at Hollywood worked their genius by making movies as entertaining as possible. There's a falsehood to the scenes yet people keep on buying what obviously fascinates them.
