The View vs. Concealed Carry on Campus

Published

on

Concealed carry has always been a subject of concern for gun owners and the state. Let's revisit this discussion on “The View” and examine how the issue has progressed.

In-Depth Discussion on the Pros and Cons of Concealed Carry

A recent segment on “The View” had the ladies who host the show exposing their lack of research and knowledge again, this time it was the subject of concealed carry weapons being allowed on Texas Universities by legally concealed carry licensees. While we broke this down point by point on Gun News Weekly live a few weeks back, here are the nonsensical musings once again for your consideration. We do want to give credit for the lone voice of reason, co-host Jedediah Bila. She was showing some common sense and obvious experience with guns in the past as she spoke on the concept of “gun free zones” in relation to mass shooting statistics. The others, however, need some education. Remember, this show rates well and has a loyal following daily!

Watch this short clip by Nathan Oliver about the original clip from The View:

Here is what they got wrong:

1. 1:02 “to get a gun license, you don’t have to actually learn how to shoot the gun”

gun license chart | THE VIEW vs. Concealed Carry on Campus

NOT TRUE: here is a chart that shows the states that do not require live fire training in ORANGE.

2. 1:35 “of 160 active shooter situations….. the FBI found only ONE case where an armed civilian intervened to stop an attack”

FALSE – we have cited dozens of stories on Gun News Weekly that have shown concealed permit holders ending a mass shooting within the past 20 years, as well as neutralizing literally hundreds of thousands of potentially deadly personal encounters annually.

3. 1:56 “statistically, you are more likely to kill another civilian or yourself with a gun”

WHAT?!?! So now Concealed carriers are the bad guys shooting other civilians and themselves? This is a made up “statistic” that once she says it, no one questions it because it SOUNDS like she previously supported it with facts, but did not! They do this all of the time on the VIEW…

4. 2:11 “the last thing you need in a dark theatre, with adrenaline pumping, is a bunch of people popping up (to shoot at the bad guy)…. because when someone comes to save the day, who are they going to shoot at? Anyone with a gun”

While this too, sounds like the dreaded “wild wild west”, her story is just that: a story that she has just made up. There are no cases of a “bunch of people popping up”. And when she mentions someone “saving the day”, I wonder if she would complain if her “story” played out in real life and you were the hero sitting next to her that eliminated the murderous villain she surely fears!

Watch this video by Gun Carrier about the Gun News Weekly team review the View:

As soon as Jedediah Bila states “the gun is NOT THE PROBLEM”, Whoopi immediately throws it to a commercial break. How convenient.

There have been no retractions, no corrections, and no further discussion regarding the untruths and misleading information. The real concern is that this type of content continues to feed false information to the masses, to the public at large. The View is not something we can recommend when it comes to opinions and advice on your right to defend yourself.

UPDATE: Jedediah Bila has recently left as a host of the VIEW.

I have a hard time finding a starting point in discussions with people who think regulation is the answer to our social problems. I think the recent #me too sexual harassment movement is the perfect example. Although I’m not sure about all of the accusations or implications, it is clear that there is a very clear and direct SOCIAL movement that is addressing a SOCIAL problem. Congress is talking about mandatory harassment training and whatever else, but they are just grabbing to do “something”. How much effect have they had to progress the social change? Very little. But the masses, the people where the real power lies, has basically changed the game over night. Guys are getting fired on the spot because of public opinion. It’s the same situation with gun control. We have a very rare but very uncomfortable and very engaging social problem of mass shootings (although there are a million more realistic threats of violence to the average person). But instead of doing the hard work of taking a look at our social situation and trying to really decipher how a member of our society could bring themselves to commit such a terrible act, too many people are fine with doing “something” and guns become this inanimate object of so much emotion and controversy. Restricting rights is never going to solve complicated social problems. Although everyone hears a lot of words spoken they don’t agree with, the freedom of speech isn’t really a freedom anyone is willing to give up because they utilize it frequently and recognize it’s utility and necessity. Most of us understand the utility and necessity of the second amendment, but those that don’t utilize it are willing to waive it, usually just wanting to do “something”. If you restrict the baker’s right to serve who he pleases, and force him to make a cake for the same sex couple, you are also forcing the harlem barber to serve the kkk member. You only serve to entrench people in their positions. Restrictions are force, laws limit freedoms. But hey, it’s “something”

LOL an excellent start, these ladies are narrow minded & ignorant on every subject they rant about. “A recent segment on “The View” had the ladies who host the show exposing their lack of research and knowledge again, this time it was the subject of concealed carry weapons being allowed on Texas Universities by legally concealed carry licenses” I think that’s why they call it “the view” instead of “the fact” or “women who think”. It’s no wonder that anyone who watches this crap is just being indoctrinated into stupidity. I really can’t imaging why anyone even watched this show.
The point that got me was when Whoopee joined in just before Vic of the NFL was found guilty of dog fighting and she said it wasn’t a big deal because animal abuse “was a tradition in the south”. A a northerner, the area I grew up in was along famous Underground Railroad of people risking their own life to help fleeing slaves. Sorry if I’m going off topic, but she’s stupid enough to speak of “southern tradition” means SHE FORGOT that many of those traditions were worth fight to end. Many died to end an evil tradition, and I still feel Whoopee owes an apology as she rose from poor single mom to super rich but still forgetting that we ALL were the fans that made her rich.

Some of their points had merit. But they’re arguing from emotion. It all depends on the state, and it’s concealed licensing procedure, really. Shall issue states, it’s kind of a joke, watch a 10 minute video online, then take an online test, from the comfort of your living room, never having to sit in class and learn from a qualified instructor, as to the law surrounding carrying a firearm, and never doing any time at a range, to qualify.

It’s just that these women are highly ignorant on the subject matter.
